The 65,000 square foot Suisun City Kroc Center is one of 26 Kroc Centers open and operating nationwide.  In 1998, Mrs. Joan Kroc, widow of McDonald's founder Ray Kroc, donated $90 million to The Salvation Army to build a comprehensive community center in San Diego, California.  Her goal was to create a center, supported in part by the community, where children and families would be exposed to different people, activities and arts that would otherwise be beyond their reach.  When Mrs. Kroc passes away in October 2003, sher left $1.5 billion - much of her estate - to The Salvation Army, by far the largest charitable gift ever given to the Army, and the largest single gift given to any single charity at one time.  the money was designated to build a series of state-of-the-art The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Centers nationwide patterned after the San Diego center.  A total of 27 centers will be operational once the project is complete. So I am preparing my final week before my Kisckstarter is released into the great abyss of www. This has ben a huge amount of work getting it ready. I am in the final stages, and just need to shoot and edit the video. From what I understand the hard work is just beginning ;) So what is the Kickstarter for? I created the Kickstarter for a hardcover coffee table book about the amazing UNESCO site Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra, Portugal. Over the last 2 years I have taken over 70,000 photographs at Regaleira and had really been captivated by how amazing it is, and what imaginations the architect Luigi Manini and the owner Carvalho Monteiro. More on them later... What is Kickstarter? (From Kickstarter site) Kickstarter is a fundraising platform that allows artist and inventor to get funding for their projects from people that are all over the world. Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects. Everything from films, games, and music to art, design, and technology. It has had some incredible funding success stories in games, books, and films. How does Kickstarter work? (From Kickstarter site) Thousands of projects are funding on Kickstarter each project is independently created and crafted by the person behind it. The filmmakers, musicians, artists, and designers you see on Kickstarter have complete control and responsibility over their projects. They spend weeks building their project pages, shooting their videos, and brainstorming what rewards to offer backers. When they feel ready, a creator can launch their project on the site and share it with their community. Every project creator sets their project's funding goal and deadline. If people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers' credit cards are charged when time expires. If the project falls short, no one is charged. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. So the key is you have to take the risk. No-risk no-opportunity. I will post more on this tomorrow.
