Thank you for visiting my website! My love for photography began as a child. I remember going to the National Museum of the Air Force when I was 9 or 10 years old. I spent every penny I had buying and shooting all the rolls of 110 film I could get my hands on. It took me weeks to save up enough to get them all developed (aahhh digital). I found the pictures again a few years ago. The pictures were nothing spectacular, but I'll never forget the rush I got taking them. Jump ahead to high school where I took my first photography class and learned about exposure, composure, and developing. After that I got away from serious photography until just a few years back. My father got a fancy new camera, a Nikon D90, and I had to have one too. I tried out a lot of lower grade equipment before learning the reasons why the pro grade stuff cost soooo much. There really is a huge difference in what you can do with it. But then I hit another wall. Even though my gear was good, I couldn't get all the shots I was trying for. My dad was having similar issues and we discovered a local photography school, Light Photographic Workshops. And the rest, as they say, is history. Not really, but I did learn how to fully use my camera and have continued to strive to be a better photographer ever since. I am fortunate to live in an area filled with great places to shoot, and to have friends and family that are so supportive of my work.

Since May 2015 the Babel-University project website has been down. Since then I have received a lot of emails from project supporters , So I've set up this page to provide some answers. What happened? The short answer is that my savings account went dry and I couldn't afford to keep the server up and running. The longer answer starts in March of 2013, when my wife and I made the decision to move back to the United States. As many of you may know, My wife is a Japanese national and we have two sons. Since both our boys were born in Japan, we wanted to return to the United States for a few years so that they could experience western culture. So we started my wife's visa application and began saving for our trip back to the states. Since my position at the Board of Education was based on an annual contract and we intended to move back to the U.S. mid 2014, I had to resign from my position in March of that year. Unfortunately the visa application process took far longer and cost far more than we had anticipated (15 months and $6000 USD to be exact). Although in March of 2015, we'd made it to the last stage of the visa application process, we were informed that since my income for the last three years was location dependent, unless I could show that I had more than $75,000 USD in savings, they couldn't approve my wife's visa. Since we'd been living off of our savings since my resignation and $75,000 was more than three times my annual income as a teacher, we abandoned our plans and hunkered down here in Japan. I had hoped that the Babel-University project would be able to sustain enough sales to pay for the dedicated server on which it was running. Due to security issues related to shared hosting, one of the requirements to be included in the Joomla Extensions Directory (JED) is that you host your download site on a dedicated server. However in January when I announced the development of Babel-U-Exams 2.0, sales flat lined and in May, I had to cancel my server subscription. Is the project dead? Although the Babel-University site is offline and I can't offer download access to the extension at the moment, I would like to revive the project, but before I can do that, I need to get back on my feet and figure out how to make it sustainable. I'm using Babel-U-Extension, what should I do now? If you are currently running a live site using Babel-U-Extensions, then you have a few options. Option One: Migrate The first option is to migrate to an alternative solution. I know there are several other extensions that offer similar functionality, so finding an alternative shouldn't be difficult. However migrating the database to a different extension isn't going to be easy. You'll need to either have a very strong mastery of SQL or hire a database administrator to handle the migration process. Option Two: Start Over If you don't mind losing the exam data you have, then you can always start over with an alternative extension. This is the most cost effective option, but it does require that you manually import exams and questions into whatever extension you choose. Option Three: Maintain it in-house The third option is to maintain the system in-house. I've worked very hard to insure that the code in all Babel-U-Extensions is clean, stable and well documented. So any proficient PHP developer that has experience with the Joomla CMS should be able work with the code. Option Four: Hire me (Highly Recommended) Truthfully I'm between a rock and a hard spot at the moment. The Babel-University project was how I established my credibility as a web developer, so since the site went down, my freelance income is hit and miss. Although I've been looking for something here in Japan, living in the boondocks limits the opportunities I have. Schoolkids Has Purchased CD Alley, Will Change Names March 1 Posted by David Klein @DKleinandFall on Fri, Feb 12, 2016 at 5:08 PM Come March 1, CD Alley—the cozy, narrow Chapel Hill record shop that Ryan Richardson has owned and operated since 2006—will not be CD Alley. Schoolkids Records , which left Chapel Hill in 2008, will make its return to the college town at CD Alley’s West Franklin Street location. This will be the third Schoolkids. Several factors compelled Richardson’s decision. For one, the store’s ten-year term is coming to an end shortly, and he figured “ten years felt like the right amount of time.” The agreement with Judge arrived just in time. With Richardson starting accounting school in May, the store would have closed for good in the next few months, anyway. Salvaging CD Alley’s legacy—and bringing Schoolkids back to Chapel Hill—were important to Schoolkids owner Stephen Judge. “There’s a lot of history there,” he says. “I grew up in Rocky Mount. When I came up for Carolina football games with my friends, we would always stop by Schoolkids. It was just part of the ritual.” Eight years ago, as general manager at Redeye Distribution in Haw River, Judge fought strenuously to keep Schoolkids from leaving Chapel Hill, whether by himself or with the help of his employers at Yep Roc and Redeye. In the end, he felt it was too risky to take on by himself. When Richardson discussed wanting to sell CD Alley, he was determined to make it work this time. “It’s always something that stuck in my side,” he says. "This is me setting things right." The transition will be smooth and devoid of hoopla, says Judge, whose other Schoolkids locations are in Raleigh and Durham. There won’t even be any new signage. Initially, the only significant change that shoppers can expect will be less frequent sightings of Richardson at the front desk. But the store’s other staff will remain on board. Richardson came to the store as an employee in 2000 and bought it six years later. He never planned to do it forever. “I’ve known all along that I couldn’t do this for the rest of my career,” he says. “I was going to have to change tracks at some point. I felt like, if I was gonna go back to school, I’d better do I before I let too much more time get away from me.” While he says he still enjoys his work, Richardson admits it takes more and more to keep up. “If there was one thing I don’t enjoy about it as much anymore, it’s just trying to stay ahead of the curve. But all in all, it’s still a lot of fun,” he says. “If you could have told me I’d own a shop on Franklin Street for ten years, I’d say that sounds like a dream come true.”

Every Schnauzer Deserves a Loving Home. Schnauzer Love Rescue is an organization of volunteers, most of whom have full time jobs in addition to doing rescue work. They dedicate a great amount of personal time to ensure these rescues get the second chance they deserve. All dogs coming into our rescue program receive a full veterinary examination, are brought up to date on their shots, checked for worms, and are spayed or neutered before we release them to their forever homes. This is done at considerable expense to our organization. The adoption fees often don't cover all the vetting fees, especially when there are additional procedures required to restore the dog's health. Our rescues are always fostered for a period of time to determine their temperament. This helps us ensure we find a suitable home that will result in a forever match. This takes time. We also do a Home Visit with the adopting family to ensure a good match, and to ensure the safety of our pets in their new homes. All this takes time. Many rescues come to us from difficult situations that involve rehabilitating them to one degree or another. Some have housebreaking or marking issues, others need socialization and ALL of them need a period of adaptation after going to their forever homes. If you are expecting a perfect dog when adopting a rescue, you're at the wrong place. All these rescues can become wonderful companions. It depends on how much time YOU are willing to spend with them. Obedience or agility classes are always a great way to bond with your new companion. Many rescues going to a new home will have accidents initially. Having been uprooted at least twice, they will be nervous, - the same way you would be if someone placed you in a totally strange environment. It's a time of transition for them and it is often frightening, even though you may have much love to offer. They will need some understanding and time to adjust to their new homes. If all you want is to feel good because you rescued a Schnauzer, please don't waste the precious time our volunteers spend finding good homes for these wonderful rescues.

All I can say is, I have the most student loans of anyone that I know, and I am making it work. I took out loans for all of undergraduate and graduate school. I knew what I wanted to do with my life, and I knew that I was going to find a way to do it even if I had to borrow money to do so. I actively chose programs that I knew had street cred, so that my prospects of finding a job would be supported by the program culture itself. Looking back I would likely borrow differently: more federal and less private, ask more questions and be more persistent about scholarships and school opportunities, and would have waited to consolidate until I had more knowledge about private consolidation processes. But I would still borrow. I continued to ignore that gut feeling, and just focused on that loving feeling. And now I am loving it every day.

Written by Rachel Jervis, Advanced Leadership Training Program Class of 2017 On May 5, 2017, I graduated from RIHEL's Advanced Leadership Training Program (ALTP). On October 15, 2017 I completed my first marathon. The latter is a direct result of the first. I've been a runner since moving to Colorado in 2007. Over the years I've completed numerous short and mid-distance races, including six half marathons. I never planned to run a marathon. I'd joke "I'm such a slow runner that I'd have to stop mid-race for a meal." I feared injuring myself, abhorred the time commitment, and was dubious that I could physically complete a marathon even if I wanted to. In short, marathons held no appeal to me. Fast-forward to April 2017, when I was in the homestretch of the RIHEL Advanced Leadership Training Program (ALTP). Since attending college in Boston, I find myself glued to Boston Marathon results and human-interest stories each Patriot's Day. Unlike previous years, some part of my brain wondered if I could conquer 26.2 miles. In a row. I confessed this thought to a friend on a long run the following weekend. Having completed multiple marathons and a full ironman, she assured me that with proper training I could finish a marathon. That evening I thought, Maybe I should run a marathon. One of my focuses during the ALTP was to use strong, confident language (no more "I just wanted to ask if perhaps you could…"). In discussing this, a RIHEL classmate told me that she's stopped saying "should" as it implies value/judgement. From that point on, I worked to eradicate "should" from my vocabulary. So when I caught myself thinking I maybe should run a marathon, I rephrased with confident language: I am going to run a marathon. The next words out of my mouth were equally strong: Oh %*@$, I'm going to run a marathon! When I caught myself thinking I maybe should run a marathon, I rephrased with confident language: I am going to run a marathon The ALTP demonstrated the value of a documented plan and skilled mentorship/coaching. Accordingly, I hired a fantastic coach ( to get me to the start line feeling confident and across the finish line still enjoying running. I expected the mindfulness and emotional intelligence work during the ALTP to increase my confidence marathon training, but I didn't realize how interrelated they would be. In addition to four runs a week, two strength sessions, daily core work, and stretching, my coach assigned weekly "mental toughness" readings or podcasts. I found myself talking about the ALTP and sending her RIHEL resources in response to my homework. During five months of training, I ran 539.73 miles to prepare to run the marathon. I went from a goal of "just finishing" to thinking that maybe, just maybe, I could complete my first marathon in under four and a half hours. I met my coach for a "shake out run" the Thursday before the race. The following day I was flying to Detroit. The weather forecast called for heat and humidity. Despite summer heat conditioning, there was no way I could safely run 26.2 miles in under 4.5 hours in the predicted weather; and if I tried I could risk not finishing at all. My coach reassured me that I was trained for a 4.5 hour race, but it wasn't 4.5 hour race weather. I agreed to readjust my goal to complete the race in under 5 hours and promised to go out nice and slow. Only if I felt good at mile 10 would I pick up my pace, but ultimately I would run conservatively. Driving home from my last coaching session I burst into tears. I didn't want to try for a sub-5 hour marathon. I wanted a cool, crisp fall morning where I could push the pace. I'd trained for months, couldn't the weather cooperate? Mental toughness and emotional intelligence be damned, I had a meltdown. On race day morning, my father and 5 friends who'd come to cheer me on showed up in the hotel lobby wearing matching "Run, Rachel, Run" shirts. I burst into tears again, this time tears of gratitude for all the people who had supported me along my marathon journey. Starting (unknowingly) with my RIHEL classmate who told me she doesn't say should anymore. I dug into my emotional intelligence reserves and told myself today I run the best first marathon I can. On race day morning, my father and 5 friends who'd come to cheer me on showed up in the hotel lobby wearing matching "Run, Rachel, Run" shirts. ... told myself today I run the best first marathon I can. It was 70 degrees at the 7am start time, I sweat more in that race than all my training runs combined, and my visor blew off in the final quarter mile because the wind was so strong. But it was an amazing race day. I started slow, felt good enough to pick up the pace at mile ten, chatted with other runners, and kept going. I never hit the proverbial wall. When my friends met me at mile 24 to pace me in, I was all smiles. I crossed the finish line at four hours, 51 minutes, and 44 seconds. This summer I'm focusing on some shorter trail runs to challenge myself with hills and enjoy the mountain scenery. I plan to run my second marathon in 2019. It will give me the opportunity to strive for a 4.5 hour marathon and continue practicing resilience and other ALTP skills.

Welcome to The Steel Armadillo!The Steel Armadillo was founded in 2011 when we came to the conclusion that nobody else was going to produce products for the Jeep Commander (XK) and the Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK). Since then businesses have seen an explosion in the market from owners who want to customize their vehicles. We were the original and we are the largest on-line retail store specializing in products for our vehicles.Since opening our doors we have added products for several other vehicles and will continue to manufacture and sell the products you want when others won't.Please note that The Steel Armadillo is a one man operation, I have a full-time day job and work many, many side jobs as well as running The Steel Armadillo. I fill all orders at the end of the day when I get home from my other jobs, I try to ship everyday but sometimes I am traveling for business and am out of town for one or two days.I try to keep as much inventory as I can but some items are not currently in stock and will ship as soon as they are available. My fabricator is good and normally fills my orders within one week. Large items like bumpers are special order and can take approximately four weeks if not in stock.

Here's a quick update for December. Let me know if you still read these posts now that the test version is out. I may change the focus of these updates to be more in depth about upcoming features. Features added this past month So this month had two "big" patches and a few bug fixes patches. Only a couple big features were added due to the holidays. Controller support added. Creative Mode v1 (There is still a lot of work to do here) Join the test! I've still got test keys, I want to give them away! If you want to join it's pretty easy. Send a friend request to reanimatedgames on steam Request to join the Reanimated Testers Steam Group Wait for your key, which I will send as soon as I see the friend request (I check a couple times a day). That's it, you're in! Discord One of the early testers setup a Discord server for the test. I check in there fairly regularly. Note that this server was not created by Reanimated Games and it's content is not subject to my review/moderation/approval. What's Next? Now that the test version is running and the game is "semi" stable I'm going to start working on larger patches that affect bigger pieces of the game. Some items will be more experimental (Like swapping out physics) that might not actually make it into the game. Others, like reworking multiplayer, will definitely be happening. The timelines for these items aren't set in stone however.
