Januar 2007 zeigt das Museum für Indische Kunst in Berlin Dahlem die Sonderausstellung 'Lustgärten und Gartengräber - Höfische Kunst zu Zeit der Moghul-Herrschaft.' 170 Meisterwerke aus drei Sammlungen der Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz und aus bedeutenden deutschen Privatsammlungen dokumentieren auf sinnliche Weise die außerordentliche Liebe der Moghuln zu ihren Gärten. Im Mittelpunkt dieser einmaligen Ausstellung stehen ungewöhnliche Darstellungen des Taj Mahals, des wohl berühmtesten aller so genannten Gartengräber. Die besondere Affinität der timuridisch-turkstämmigen Dynastie zur Gartenkunst spiegelt sich jedoch in nahezu allen Kunstgattungen jener besonders fruchtbaren Kunst-Epoche Indiens: exquisite Miniaturmalereien aus Kaiserlichen Alben, kostbarer Schmuck, feinste Jade und farbenfrohe Textilien zeichnen das Bild einer Epoche großer Opulenz und verfeinerter orientalischer Lebensart, aber auch bemerkenswerter Weltoffenheit und Toleranz. Die Kunst der Moghuln ist eine faszinierende Synthese aus islamischen Traditionen, genuin indischen und europäischen Einflüssen.
