When undernourished and overworked, running low on energy and fluids, muscles get spasms (short painful contractions). Muscle Function Muscles, with their contractile behavior, are primarily accountable for body motions. In ordinary cases, these voluntary muscles start contracting, when the brain sends electrical signals. The release of calcium ions leads to interaction with proteins, which leads to sliding past one another of proteins of these ions. Recapture of ions leads to unlinking again. Muscle Spasm Occasionally, people have an uneasy feeling of tightness in muscles of legs, neck, arms or their back. Sportspersons, athletes or the folks associated with strenuous tasks get cramps in their own muscles. Both these forms are referred to as muscle spasms. Normally it's characterized by an abrupt burst of unpleasant, painful sense. Every muscle in the body is susceptible to muscle spasm, although it's more common in calf muscles or muscles of the back or neck. Muscle will not loosen after sudden stiffening when the body witness's muscle spasm. When it occurs in legs, it's also known as 'Charley Horse'. Normally, these muscle cramps up the crop from the simple fatigue of muscles, after surprising heavy exercise when the muscle is just not habituated to weights that are additional. It can also occur during pregnancy. Yet, there are few instances when disorders or electrolyte imbalances in neuromuscular functions cause spasms. Also, it could be a complication of certain medicines. Spasms can be catalyzed by the sudden moves, especially a sudden, tweaking move. Stretching that is slow and slow will be a successful option in such scenarios. In conditions that are abnormal, unusual contraction action of muscle cells at any period can result in these spasms. There is specific mechanism between the brain and the spinal cord and motor neurons of the central nervous system to regulate contraction activity. Interruption of the system results in a spasm. Being over sensitive, motor neurons may go bizarre in their functioning. Excitement takes place as muscle sheath itself is quite sensitive, without appropriate contraction. Discharged Calcium ions may not get recaptured in time, resulting in protracted contraction of muscles. Welcome to our website! Vianney College came to birth in the same year, 1992, that Pope John Paul ll published his post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation, "Pastores dabo vobis". Thus this year, 2017, marks the 25th anniversary of our founding. Special celebrations are planned in August of this year to mark our Silver Jubilee and details can be found elsewhere on this website. Bishop Brennan founded Vianney College to form priests for the diocese of Wagga Wagga. He saw the advantages of training priests for a rural diocese in a rural setting. It was a bold move at the time and not without controversy. However time has proved the decision was a wise one and God has blessed the diocese of Wagga Wagga with a healthy flow of vocations to the priesthood. Bishop Gerard Hanna succeeded Bishop Brennan as bishop of Wagga Wagga in 2002 and retired, due to ill health in 2016. He will be remembered for his constant support and interest in Vianney College, enriching its programme of formation with the fruits of his own pastoral experience as a rural pastor and making provision for the future by sending priests of the diocese to do higher studies and thus providing a supply of qualified lecturers for the future. He also undertook a programme of upgrading and expanding the buildings of the seminary, and in doing so expanded our accommodation to over 30 students. While we await the appointment of a new bishop we look forward to the future with confidence. 25 Seminarians are currently enrolled in Vianney College, now not only for the Wagga diocese but for several other rural dioceses, for some Oriental Eparchies and for several religious orders. As in other Australian seminaries, a large proportion of our seminarians are of non-Australian birth but the formation at Vianney gives them an opportunity to understand the Australian culture (and accent) and to recognise the pastoral challenges they will face from an Australian point of view. Over our short 25 year history we have helped form 48 priests and two bishops. It is hoped that at least two more priests will be ordained this year. Written by Rachel Jervis, Advanced Leadership Training Program Class of 2017 On May 5, 2017, I graduated from RIHEL's Advanced Leadership Training Program (ALTP). On October 15, 2017 I completed my first marathon. The latter is a direct result of the first. I've been a runner since moving to Colorado in 2007. Over the years I've completed numerous short and mid-distance races, including six half marathons. I never planned to run a marathon. I'd joke "I'm such a slow runner that I'd have to stop mid-race for a meal." I feared injuring myself, abhorred the time commitment, and was dubious that I could physically complete a marathon even if I wanted to. In short, marathons held no appeal to me. Fast-forward to April 2017, when I was in the homestretch of the RIHEL Advanced Leadership Training Program (ALTP). Since attending college in Boston, I find myself glued to Boston Marathon results and human-interest stories each Patriot's Day. Unlike previous years, some part of my brain wondered if I could conquer 26.2 miles. In a row. I confessed this thought to a friend on a long run the following weekend. Having completed multiple marathons and a full ironman, she assured me that with proper training I could finish a marathon. That evening I thought, Maybe I should run a marathon. One of my focuses during the ALTP was to use strong, confident language (no more "I just wanted to ask if perhaps you could…"). In discussing this, a RIHEL classmate told me that she's stopped saying "should" as it implies value/judgement. From that point on, I worked to eradicate "should" from my vocabulary. So when I caught myself thinking I maybe should run a marathon, I rephrased with confident language: I am going to run a marathon. The next words out of my mouth were equally strong: Oh %*@$, I'm going to run a marathon! When I caught myself thinking I maybe should run a marathon, I rephrased with confident language: I am going to run a marathon The ALTP demonstrated the value of a documented plan and skilled mentorship/coaching. Accordingly, I hired a fantastic coach ( to get me to the start line feeling confident and across the finish line still enjoying running. I expected the mindfulness and emotional intelligence work during the ALTP to increase my confidence marathon training, but I didn't realize how interrelated they would be. In addition to four runs a week, two strength sessions, daily core work, and stretching, my coach assigned weekly "mental toughness" readings or podcasts. I found myself talking about the ALTP and sending her RIHEL resources in response to my homework. During five months of training, I ran 539.73 miles to prepare to run the marathon. I went from a goal of "just finishing" to thinking that maybe, just maybe, I could complete my first marathon in under four and a half hours. I met my coach for a "shake out run" the Thursday before the race. The following day I was flying to Detroit. The weather forecast called for heat and humidity. Despite summer heat conditioning, there was no way I could safely run 26.2 miles in under 4.5 hours in the predicted weather; and if I tried I could risk not finishing at all. My coach reassured me that I was trained for a 4.5 hour race, but it wasn't 4.5 hour race weather. I agreed to readjust my goal to complete the race in under 5 hours and promised to go out nice and slow. Only if I felt good at mile 10 would I pick up my pace, but ultimately I would run conservatively. Driving home from my last coaching session I burst into tears. I didn't want to try for a sub-5 hour marathon. I wanted a cool, crisp fall morning where I could push the pace. I'd trained for months, couldn't the weather cooperate? Mental toughness and emotional intelligence be damned, I had a meltdown. On race day morning, my father and 5 friends who'd come to cheer me on showed up in the hotel lobby wearing matching "Run, Rachel, Run" shirts. I burst into tears again, this time tears of gratitude for all the people who had supported me along my marathon journey. Starting (unknowingly) with my RIHEL classmate who told me she doesn't say should anymore. I dug into my emotional intelligence reserves and told myself today I run the best first marathon I can. On race day morning, my father and 5 friends who'd come to cheer me on showed up in the hotel lobby wearing matching "Run, Rachel, Run" shirts. ... told myself today I run the best first marathon I can. It was 70 degrees at the 7am start time, I sweat more in that race than all my training runs combined, and my visor blew off in the final quarter mile because the wind was so strong. But it was an amazing race day. I started slow, felt good enough to pick up the pace at mile ten, chatted with other runners, and kept going. I never hit the proverbial wall. When my friends met me at mile 24 to pace me in, I was all smiles. I crossed the finish line at four hours, 51 minutes, and 44 seconds. This summer I'm focusing on some shorter trail runs to challenge myself with hills and enjoy the mountain scenery. I plan to run my second marathon in 2019. It will give me the opportunity to strive for a 4.5 hour marathon and continue practicing resilience and other ALTP skills.

Greetingz fans and happy New Year 2016! During the 3 weeks of Christmas vacation I've developed a new game prototype. My intention was to create a totally minimalistic gaming experience that could make your toilet sitting more fun and even train the cognitive brain abilities a bit. You can play the game concept here: Click image to play Inspiration I thought about a proper idea for a long time and finaly got it when watching a baby-lobotomy video with my little daughter. The video was about teaching the children - which objects fly and which don't fly. I remember a game about this topic when I was a child. Someone picked an object, shouted it, and if it was a flying object, all of the other children had to put the index fingers in the air. If it was a non-flying object the children had to sit without moving. Who was too slow or didn't respond properly he had to leave the game and next round started immediately until just one child had left - the winner of course :) This made me to create a simple game. Rules are described below. Game mechanics So let's look at the game mechanics: There's a time limit of 10 seconds for a round Two shapes appear on the screen at once Only one shape represents an object that flies If player taps the correct e.g. flying object, he gets a point and a bonus time If player taps the wrong e.g. non flying object, he gets no point and gets and looses a small portion of precious time limit The faster the player decides, the more bonus time he can get and the better score he can achieve The more points, the more experience the player gets. Once he gets enough exp, he will proceed to the next (more difficult) level, where more shapes will appear (animals, insects, inductrial objects etc.) In advanced levels, the shapes will be rotated, so the player will have to cope with his mental rotation ability of his brain So let's sum up the features. We are all about the relationship.  We often remind ourselves that while we do our best, we cannot solve all of the world’s problems for our mamas.  But what we can do is love them and walk along side them in their journey so that even when the next step is really hard to take, they never have to take it alone.  Together, in tandem, we overcome the barriers together.   We are cultivating a community of hope in which those in crisis come out on the other side to all of the promise that Life still has to offer.  We combine practical help with deep authentic relationships and those two things woven together are a powerful force.   There is something sacred that happens in that moment when the barriers come down, and we are no longer clients or staff or donors…we are just a community of people, drawn to one another for the purpose of sharing our stories in an authentic, transparent way that heals the soul.  We call it life-on-life ministry.  It’s powerful. It’s why we are different. It’s why what we do, works.
