The Zimu Foundation was started in 2010 by Father Peter Mukasa, who recognized a need for bringing a difference to the lives of many underprivileged children and their destitute mothers in his home village in Uganda who were barely surviving in the crudest conditions of life due to lack of education, basic healthcare, clean water and self-sustaining livelihoods. In the US, the Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors led by Father Mukasa, President, and Joseph Gurreri, CEO. ("Zimu" is an acronym for "Zinunula Munaku", a Lugandan saying which is literary translated as "hope for the poor or the downtrodden".)
