The Community Weather Observing Scheme (CWOS) is an initiative of the Community Weather Information Network (Co-WIN) jointly established by the Hong Kong Observatory and the Department of Applied Physics, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Through offering various online platforms for everyone to upload weather photos and observation reports to share with others, we hope to encourage members of the public to carry out first-hand weather observations so as to broaden their knowledge on weather and climate.

Kevin Cheung, Wai Chun is an upcycling product designer based in Hong Kong. Since graduated from School of Design (SD) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2009, he has been devoted to re-create a better world for people and other living things to live in. He believes designers are capable and has the responsibility to protect the environment through sustainable designs, that is to balance three interconnected domains: ecology, economics, and society. Kevin experiments with a wide range of materials others would have considered as waste or scrap, being an extraordinary scavenger, he design and transformed these materials into lasting products. Through understanding the production process, Kevin hopes to inspire many more through viewing things from another lens, understanding how things are being made, packaged, consumed and disposed. All upcycling products designed by Kevin are made of waste produced in Hong Kong. Members with disabilities of a local NGO’s Sheltered Workshop are employed to help with part of the production as one of the tasks in their training programme. Not only are the products useful, they also demonstrate how a mutually beneficial relationship could be attained.
