Apart from this, social justice and empowerment schemes run by nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) for the welfare of disabled and destitute women, aged and children are supported by the Directorate. The Social Welfare Department also ensures proper implementation of important welfare legislations such as the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000; the Dowry Prohibition Act 1958 ; the Probation of Offender’s Act; the Domestic Violence Act 2005; and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1986; and Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Act 2007 through the Social Welfare Directorate.
