Survivor Detection and Location - UAV A project based out of UC Irvine. Our Mission To design a drone capable of being assembled in under 15 minutes and costing less than $1,000. The drone must be autonomous and capable of detecting and locating survivors buried beneath 10 feet of rubble using microwave Doppler radar technology. Why SDL UAV? The hardest challenge for search and rescue teams is locating potential survivors who are trapped underneath debris caused by mudslides, earthquakes, or floods. Rescuers currently deploy drones equipped with thermal imaging and high-resolution cameras to assist locating survivors. However, this current solution does not detect those beneath the surface. Our team will engineer the solution to locating these survivors. SDL UAV will be an autonomous drone equipped with a microwave Doppler radar system that can detect victims trapped underneath various mediums and relay their location and vitals to search and rescue teams.
