Who are we? - Mid Glamorgan Area was formed in 1974 when there was a significant change in County Council boundaries. Previously it had been part of East Glamorgan Scout County. The Area consists of four Districts, Bridgend, RCT ( Rhondda Cynon Taf), Merthyr and CRAI (Caerphilly, Rhymney and Islwyn). Each District is made up of a number of Scout Groups offering scouting activities to young people from the ages of 6 years to 18 years of age. There is also the facility for the Area to cater for young adults from 18 to 25 years of age.

We operate from the UK east coast throughout the season, with longer trips across Europe including participation in the Tall Ships Race series. Offshore sailing creates opportunities for personal development in a physically challenging environment and to inculcate initiative and leadership skills and provides the basis for a communal experience on board ship in which teamwork and cooperation are at least as important as self reliance, toughness and individual fortitude. Through offshore sailing, we aim to encourage an awareness of the beauty of the natural world, particularly the sea in all its changing moods and man's place in that world.
